Course Description
“Practical Guide to Treating Dental Patients with Special Health Care Needs” is a free continuing education course for dental professionals who wish to improve their skills in caring for individuals with special health care needs. Dr. Matthew Cooke, a pediatric dentist and the Director of Healthy Athletes, Special Olympics of Virginia, will present a full-day lecture covering several topics related to dental treatment for ISHCN, including overview of special health care conditions, patient behavioral guidance techniques, and barriers to care. Kami A. Piscitelli, RDH, Virginia Department of Health Special Needs Oral Health Coordinator, will provide a brief presentation regarding oral hygiene considerations for dental providers treating this population. Teaching methods include lecture and question and answer. The speakers have no relevant financial relationships to disclose. No prior skill level or knowledge is required to attend.
