What Can Laser Dentistry Do for You?

VCU School of Dentistry Event

In recent years, laser dentistry has superseded many traditional dentistry practices, making treatments more precise and less painful. This newer style of dentistry utilizes intense beams of light projected by a dental laser. New York City laser dentist, Dr. Convissar uses dental lasers to perform a wide variety of treatments, including soft tissue shaping and removal. The FDA deemed laser dentistry to be safe for public usage in 1990 and approved the use of seven different wavelengths for dental use. These different wavelengths create a world of difference in how the lasers operate, and their usefulness in the oral cavity. Since then, many dentists including NYC laser specialist, Dr. Convissar, have incorporated dental lasers into everyday procedures – reducing bleeding, anxiety and post-treatment recovery times. The beauty of dental lasers is that they damage far less of the surrounding tissue than traditional techniques – which means less discomfort and pain. The use of lasers for specific procedures found in everyday general practice will be highlighted. The second day will give each participant hands-on experience with the various wavelengths, performing surgical procedures on in-vitro models. Real time videos of routine laser procedures will be part of the in-depth discussion of specific instrument settings and techniques for laser surgical procedures. At the conclusion of the course, the participant will be familiar with the various wavelengths used in dentistry today, their effects on oral tissues, and their uses for specific oral diseases and pathologies found in everyday practice. They will be able to incorporate this knowledge into a basis for determining which laser wavelength is most appropriate for their practice, and be able to incorporate hard and soft tissue laser dentistry into their practices first thing tomorrow morning.Attendees will receive a Certificate of Standard Proficiency recognized by the Academy of Laser Dentistry upon successful completion of the course from Dr. Convissar.
