Military dental insurance coming back to Central Pa.

Central Pennsylvania will once again become the epicenter for U.S. military dental care, as United Concordia announced this week that it has won the bidding process for the Department of Defense’s TRICARE Dental Program (TDP).

United Concordia is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Highmark Health. The insurance giant has roughly 3,000 employees in Central Pa., and another 1,000 specifically dedicated to the United Concordia headquarters in Linglestown, according to Highmark spokesman Leilyn Perri.

The TRICARE contract covers roughly 1.8 million patients, and United Concordia was the low bidder at $2.9 billion. The company formerly held the contract from 1996 to 2012, at which point the DoD shifted to MetLife.
