Many thanks to Dr. Sanford Montalto and his wife, Rebecca, a hygienist, for volunteering to educate seniors on their oral health. The event took place at the South County Senior Center in Alexandria on Friday, June 24. The senior center is part of the Fairfax County Parks & Recreation system.

Dr. Montalto first discussed proper oral health care with about two dozen seniors. He and his wife then provided dental screenings to anyone who requested one. Dr. Montalto also advised a few seniors to seek out their dentist to address potential issues.

Everyone was then given a small bag which contained toothpaste and a toothbrush.

The VDA has two more ​outreach events this summer with Fairfax Parks & Rec. On Friday, July 22 and Friday, August 12, VDA members will address campers on the importance of taking care of their mouths. Fairfax Parks & Rec stages the largest summer camp in Northern Virginia.
