FDA To ADA: Currently No Shortage Of Nitrous Oxide For Medical Use In The US.

The ADA News (1/9, Garvin) reports the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research Drug Shortage Program responded to an Association inquiry regarding the status of nitrous oxide supplies designated for medical use in the US, stating in an email, “The FDA Drug Shortage Staff has been monitoring the supply of nitrous oxide medical gas and at this time there is no shortage of medical gas for patient access.” The concern arose in part due to an explosion at an AirGas plant in Cantonment, Florida in August 2016 that is a major supplier of nitrous oxide when it is operational. The ADA News concludes, “For more information on all drug shortages or supply issues, visit the FDA’s website.”
