We're hiring! Do you know someone who would be a great fit?

Application DEADLINE: June 15, 2018

Its no easy task finding a successor for a visionary like Dr. Terry Dickinson, longtime VDA Executive Director.  So as we embark upon this search, we want to arm members with information on the position, in the event that you know someone who may be a good fit.

Below are several FAQ’s to help you better explain the position and its function within the association.

What does the VDA do?

The association is a sounding board for its members, a source for industry and market information, and a coordinating and decision-making body for dealing with industry issues. The VDA helps develop, update, and maintain dental practice standards and works closely with the American Dental Association, the Virginia Board of Dentistry, as well as the Virginia General Assembly, the Governor of Virginia, the US Congress, and regulatory agencies to advocate policies that affect the livelihood of the dental profession and the patients who are served.

What is the primary function of its executive director?

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for directing the operational activities of the association and supporting its strategic and financial goals. While the ED will collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop a strategic business plan, this person will be responsible for shaping the vision for the near, medium and distant future.  This individual will also be responsible for managing the day to day operations of the association, which includes: planning, budget development and management, development of programs and events, and building and maintaining relationships that are key to VDA members.

What is the VDA looking for?

A servant-style leader with strong communication skills and business acumen who can help the VDA to chart a path forward. This person should have experience collaborating with and convening diverse stakeholders in a transparent and highly participatory manner. In addition to working with members, this person will support a team of professional employees through effective delegation, professional development and confident decision making. A strong candidate should also have a proven record in building strategic advocacy and outreach efforts on behalf of an organization. Communication with members is a large function of the organization, and so this individual should have a familiarity with marketing and branding, and a comfort level in being the face of the organization.  Direct experience in dentistry is not required, though general knowledge of the industry would be highly advantageous.

What should I do if I know a qualified candidate?

If you know someone who would make for a good ED candidate, please pass along the full job listing, which contains a link to apply formally.
