On June 14, 2017 a Federal rule was published requiring dental practices that apply or remove amalgam to install an amalgam separator to capture waste amalgam. Dentists must report the type of amalgam separator devices installed, when it was installed, how it is maintained, and perform two Best Management Practices (BMPs). The compliance date is July 14, 2020, however, it is suggested to install your device and report sooner rather than later. Compliance is not an option if you are applying or removing amalgam.
