E-prescribing Waiver Emergency Regulation - COMMENT PERIOD OPEN

Beginning July 1, 2020, a prescription for a controlled substance that contains an opioid will be required to be issued as an electronic prescription.  This law may be found in the code of Virginia.

An emergency regulation has been proposed by the VA Board of Dentistry that would grant a one-time waiver of this requirement.  Waivers would be granted ‘due to demonstrated economic hardship, technological limitations that are not reasonably within the control of the prescriber, or other exceptional circumstances demonstrated by the prescriber.  Details regarding this proposed emergency regulation may be found here.

The public comment period is now open and will end on January 22, 2020.  Should you want to express your position and leave comments on this proposed emergency regulation, you may easily submit your comments through the online portal here.  The VDA will continue to update members on this regulatory action.
