On July 1, HB 1173 was enacted into law and it replaces many of the requirements that were part of the Virginia Overtime Wage Act (VOWA) that was enacted on July 1, 2021. Many of the changes that were a part of the 2021 VOWA were inconsistent with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), but the new law makes the Virginia overtime wage requirements much closer to the Federal FLSA.
