The Virginia Board of Dentistry has adopted a Policy on Sanctioning for Failure to report to the Prescription Monitoring Program. You can review this policy by clicking here. The policy is based on the law that was passed on July 1, 2015, which requires all dentists who dispense controlled substances in Schedule II (Percocet, Hydrocodone), Schedule III (Tylenol with Codeine), or Schedule IV (Valium) to be registered with the Prescription Monitoring Program and to report the drugs dispensed within 7 days of dispensing. It is mandatory for all dentists who do not dispense these products to apply for a waiver from this reporting requirement. To review the Regulations Governing the Prescription Monitoring Program, you may click here <http://www.dhp.virginia.gov/dhp_laws/regs/Prescription_Monitoring_11192014.doc> . If you have questions regarding the Policy on Sanctioning, the Board of Dentistry can be contacted at (804) 367-4538. Any questions regarding the Prescription Monitoring Program should be directed to (804) 367-4523.
