Wise MOM Project (July 2-22, 2018) is moving to a new location, UVA’s College at Wise. Unlike all of our other MOM projects across Virginia which are held indoors, all dental services are provided outside in Wise. When a project of this magnitude is held outside it exposes our patients and volunteers to severe summer heat, rain and occasional thunderstorms. Due to the overwhelming demand for services, patients must endure long wait times in these elements which can cause health complications, especially for our elderly patients and those with disabilities.
Over the past few years, we have considered moving the location of the dental service area to improve the patient’s experience and our ability to serve their needs. This year, we were able to make arrangements with the University of Virginia’s College at Wise to use their indoor convocation center as the location for our dental services during the same weekend as the annual Wise event. (The UVA-Wise campus is just a few miles from the Wise fairgrounds.) This new venue will allow our patients to get out of the weather and receive their services in an air conditioned and far more comfortable setting than the fairgrounds. Moreover, the indoor space will provide a safer and more suitable clinical environment to treat our patients.
RAM will continue providing other services the same weekend, including vision, health care, AND dental at the Wise County Fairgrounds. However, we look forward to having you join us again with the MOM program at our new location, UVa-Wise!
MOM will need many additional volunteers to help in all areas, dental professionals and dental support volunteers including patient registration, volunteer registration, parking, patient flow, and set-up and break-down.
