An ADA Health Policy Institute study examined trends in migration of dentists from 2019-2022 and found Virginia to be among the top states for net in-migration of early career dentists. Virginia saw a slight net out-migration of dentists with more than ten years of experience in the same time period. 

Virginia saw the 6^th highest number of net new dentists moving into the state, with 72 more new dentists moving in than leaving. On a percentage basis, the 5.2% increase ranks Virginia 12^th among states. 

Among dentists with more than ten years of experience, Virginia saw a slight out-migration, with 21 more of those dentists leaving the Commonwealth than moving to Virginia, a 0.6% decrease.
