Richmond Dental Society Seeking Executive Director
Location: Richmond, Virginia Area
The Richmond Dental Society (RDS) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as Executive Director.
The ideal candidate will possess an interest in the non-profit community, including working with governing boards and volunteers.
Job Description:
The Executive Director is responsible to the Board of Directors for the effective conduct of the affairs of the Society. The Executive Director recommends and participates in the formulation of the Society’s mission, goals, and objectives, and related policies. Within this framework, the Executive Director plans, organizes, coordinates, controls, and directs programs and activities of the Society. The Board of Directors, as the authoritative body, establishes policy for the Society.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Membership recruitment, retention, and coordination of volunteer involvement and leadership development. This person would be required to do some outreach (sales) to non-members on a regular basis, with goals for membership. This includes involving the dental students by inviting them to attend meetings and events.
- Monitoring and working with the Virginia Dental Association (VDA) on pertinent legislative and regulatory developments that might impact the profession. RDS participation is crucial in supporting VDA efforts at the General Assembly.
- Serve as the point of contact for the public and the members.
- Maintaining close relationships with the VDA and the American Dental Association (ADA).
- Advocating, representing, and communicating the activities, programs, and goals of the RDS.
- Coordinate and assist all Standing Committees with their work.
- In conjunction with the RDS Treasurer, oversee and practice sound financial principles, including developing and operating within budgetary guidelines, non-dues revenue, and protecting and maintaining assets of the RDS.
- Overseeing a variety of meetings, including Board Meetings, Committee Meetings, Membership Meetings, Continuing Education (CE) Meetings, etc.
- Managing and overseeing the annual fundraiser, including all arrangements and sponsor outreach.
- Maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
- Serve as an associate editor for publications.
- Management of office information technology and data management. This would include social media, website, Instagram, X, etc. Learn and utilize the Data Management System for the ADA & the VDA.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science preferred. Candidates with relevant work experience will be considered.
- Prefer management experience in not-for-profit administration or closely related area.
- Experience in fiscal and asset management, including the development of budgets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. An outgoing and approachable personality would be beneficial in this role.
- Must be available for travel and after-hours work including occasional weekends.
Compensation Package: Full-time Salaried Position $75,000 plus benefits including optional 401K. The start date is negotiable.
