VDA-Supported Workforce Bills Approved by Virginia House of Delegates

Feb 16, 2026

VDA-supported workforce bills, which had already passed unanimously in the full Senate, passed in the full House of Delegates today with broad bipartisan support. There is a remaining legislative process after bills that originated in the House cross-over to the Senate and Senate bills cross-over to the House, and we will share additional details about how members can be involved in those next steps. Updates will be shared on the VDA website.

Two Opportunities for VDA Members to Comment on Dental Rules and Regulations

VDA members have two opportunities to share their views on a proposed rule from the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact Commission, which meets Thursday, February 19, and to submit public comment to the Virginia Board of Dentistry's Regulatory Committee, which will be meeting Friday, February 27.

Written comments to the DDH Compact Commission are due by noon on February 17, or can be delivered live via Zoom at the Commission meeting on Thursday, February 19. The commission will be hearing public comments on a draft rule on background checks and a draft rule on the definition of a clinical assessment. Meeting agenda, registration information, and process for submitting comments are available on the DDH Compact Commission website.

Current official VDA positions on licensure adopted by our House of Delegates are available on pages 17-18 of our positions document.

The Virginia Board of Dentistry Regulatory Committee will be meeting on Friday, February 27, and discussion topics will include:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Legal Name
  • OMS Audit
  • Dentist-in-Charge
  • CE Broker
  • Scope of Practice
  • Sexual Misconduct
  • and Ethics

A detailed agenda is available at the Virginia Board of Dentistry website.

Public comment will be welcomed in-person, and written comments can be submitted in advance of the meeting to the Executive Director of the Virginia Board of Dentistry, Jamie Sacksteder, at jamie.sacksteder@dhp.virginia.gov

Questions for the VDA about the regulatory process can be directed to Laura Givens at givens@vadental.org
