COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

This 2-hour class includes Adult CPR and AED training. Hands-only CPR is discussed. Signs and symptoms of a heart attack or stroke are covered, as well as how to handle a choking emergency. Use of a pocket mask and other hands-on skills is practiced. An American Heart Association 2-year CPR certification card is earned upon completion.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understand the key changes reflecting the latest science as outlined in the American Heart Association 2020 Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
  2. Demonstrate assessment of patients
  3. Explain Good Samaritan guidelines
  4. Demonstrate proper Adult CPR skills and AED use
  5. Demonstrate care for choking emergencies for conscious and unconscious patients

 

SPEAKERS: Gordon Degges
As a Basic Life Support Instructor, American Heart Association [AHA] Training Center Faculty, and a former AHA Training Center Coordinator, Gordon Degges has taught CPR and First Aid courses for over 20 years.  While Gordon is still an affiliated instructor with Eastern Virginia Medical School Life Support, he branched out and started his own training company, CPRAnywhere!  in 2017.   Now, in addition to teaching CPR and First Aid courses, Gordon also offers training in OSHA/Bloodborne pathogens and Naloxone/Opioids emergencies.  In his spare time, Gordon teaches college-level CPR and First Aid Courses as an Adjunct Professor at Tidewater Community College.
