COURSE DESCRIPTION: Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming dentistry, from diagnostic imaging and treatment planning to practice management and patient communication. This course will explore the current and emerging applications of AI within dental practice and the broader dental industry. Industry experts will discuss how AI-powered tools are being integrated into clinical workflows, how dental benefit organizations and technology companies are utilizing AI, and what dentists should consider when adopting these technologies. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how AI can enhance diagnostic accuracy, improve efficiency, and shape the future of dental care.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Describe current applications of artificial intelligence in dentistry, including diagnostic imaging and clinical decision support tools.
  2. Evaluate the potential benefits and limitations of AI technologies in dental practice workflows.
  3. Discuss considerations for integrating AI solutions into dental practices while maintaining ethical and clinical standards.
SPEAKERS: Dr. Brad Guyton and Chad Olson

Dr. Brad Guyton

Dr. Brad Guyton serves as the chief dental officer for Delta Dental of Colorado and provides thought-leadership in the areas of oral health and wellness with a focus on medical-dental integration, value-based plan design and reimbursement, product development, and provider relations. Dr. Guyton has a strong background in national leadership in the dental field as well as experience as a clinician, addressing the evolving consumer demands and provider preferences. Prior to this role, he was vice president of clinician development at Pacific Dental Services, dean of the PDS University™ - Institute of Dentistry, director of corporate professional services at Dentsply International, COO at Jameson Management, and a private practice owner. He is also a practicing dentist and an associate professor at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine.

Chad Olson

Chad Olson is the senior director of state government affairs at the American Dental Association. He leads a team that identifies state legislative/regulatory trends impacting the dental profession and provides public policy advice that complements and enhances component dental associations’ and member dentists’ efforts. He and his team cover topics that include dental insurance reform, workforce policy, and access to care. Prior to coming to the ADA, he spent more than ten years with Delta Dental. During that time, he helped formulate Delta Dental’s health care reform strategy leading up to and following the passage of the Affordable Care Act and served as a spokesperson on behalf of the Association to DC-based and national media. He also managed the Association’s political action committee administration and fundraising efforts. Chad received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona State University and is a Health Insurance Associate designate from America’s Health Insurance Plans.
