Botox and Fillers for Facial Esthetic Dentistry/Orofacial Pain

This course will teach the use of Botox and dermal fillers within the Virginia definition of dentistry for combined esthetic and therapeutic uses in the oral and maxillofacial areas.
SB 1539, permitting dentists to administer cosmetic botox is set to become law on July 1. However, dentists will not be able to administer cosmetic botox right away. The Board of Dentistry announced at its most recent meeting that they intend to send it to the Regulatory-Legislative Committee for consideration on how best to craft the regulations. It will then go to the full Board for review and approval before being noticed for public comment. This process could take 18 months - 2 years before final promulgation. In the meantime, dentists may not administer cosmetic botox until the final rule is published.

These uses include treating dental and facial esthetics, gummy smiles, lip enhancements, midface volumization to establish proper lip and smile lines, TMJ syndrome, orofacial pain, esthetic headache treatment, bruxism, and so much more. Botox and dermal fillers give dentists highly successful non-surgical, minimally invasive options for some of the most frustrating esthetic and orofacial pain challenges in every practice and have changed the face of dentistry forever. He has served as a spokesman for the AGD, as a consultant to the Council of Dental Practice of the ADA, and has worked with and presented to many state dental boards and associations around the country. He is President of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE). Dr. Malcmacher has been named as a Leader in Continuing Education by Dentistry Today for 25 years.
