The mission of the Virginia Dental Association Foundation (VDAF) is to provide access to dental care to underserved Virginians. Thousands of people across Virginia experience chronic pain resulting from oral disease, simply because they lack basic resources such as dental insurance or personal finances to access comprehensive dental care and preventative services. Founded by the Virginia Dental Association in 1996, the VDAF oversees and operates outreach programs that provide access to dental care for low-income, underserved and uninsured Virginians, including children and those who are elderly or disabled. All services are provided free of charge thanks to support from more than hundreds of dental professionals and community members that volunteer their time and talents annually.

Key Role:  Assist VDAF staff with programs, events, and activities needed to support VDAF programs.

Volunteer Responsibilities will vary but may include:

  • Assist VDAF staff with general administrative duties such as handling paperwork, filing, organizing, photocopying & scanning, mailings, and other clerical duties as needed.
  • Return phone calls to answer general questions about VDAF programs (Donated Dental Services, Give Kids A Smile, Missions of Mercy).
  • Mail and/or email program information packets to individuals inquiring about services.
  • Collect survey data from program participants.
  • Provide community resource information to individuals needing support from the Dental Safety Network.
  • Assist with putting together program participant success stories.
  • Data entry and other office duties as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the privacy of all information obtained from interacting with clients.

Qualifications:

  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Ability to support others in need with a non-judgmental, empathic response
  • Able to commit to a regular, weekly schedule and commit to 4 to 6 hours a week.
